Only 2 weeks until the show opens. I'm calling the show "Botanica". It's one of those words that isn't a real word but if you google it everyone uses it anyway. I made this web invite for the fun of it. Next week I fly to LA - exciting!
Right now I'm working on some drawings, mostly in black ink. I'm feeling inspired by wood engravings and all the intricate line work and patterning they get from the carving process. I was going to try wood engraving myself, but found out that they are mostly very small, where as I wanted to do something big. So ink on paper it is.

"Botanica" is a word we use in Portugal!

Duma, how is it used in Portugal? In English it seems to be used as a title (like a name for a flower shop or community garden) but not really mean anything specific, just a pretty word.

Cute invite. and I think the woodcuts by Margaret Preston are a decent size.
I really like Margaret Preston :) But I've actually been looking at wood engravings, rather than woodcuts. At Lionel Lindsay for example. The ones I have seen so far have mostly been less than 15cm, which is miniature.

Melissa, Botanica in portuguese is the science of plants and flowers. It comes from de greek word botané which means plant. Portuguese language was totally made from greek and latin influence.
I think it's a wonderful title for your show!

Ah, Thanks. So it's pretty much the equivalent of "botany" in English. It's a much nicer word though, I couldn't bring myself to call the show "Botany", it just sounded wrong.
